The installation procedure is described as installing the swing arm first then sliding the drive shaft through the swing arm to couple it with the output shaft. The base price for new pinion shaft splines ONLY is $220 if you do some disassembly work. On an older final drive (above 30k or so), they will also replace the pinion gear and seals. Drive Shaft.

The drive shaft is the same part and since it's the drive shaft splines that generally fail first vs. the final drive splines, you shouldn't have any issues with the K75 set-up being "weaker." Although if you're romping on it the splines will of course ride faster. Generally it's a good idea to get used final drives and drive shafts as a pair.

Oil in K75 Driveshaft Modification - Question Wow, what a simple fix to permanently cure a design weak point on an otherwise bulletproof machine. Now why didn't BMW do that? I would assume that the mating surface between the FD assembly and drive shaft tube needs to be sealed with permatex?
