Can You Artex On Top Of Artex. I have a lath and plaster ceiling that's been covered in a *thin* coat of artex. The existing ceiling is artexed with a swirl design whilst the new part has a plain, smooth plaster finish. As i was working on top of artex, you can see it needed a good few coats to build up enough layers so that it was completely hidden. The using artex ceiling finish to smooth out , then leave until it becomes firm but still moist/damp. Its best to plaster it flat first,if you try to artex over artex the pattern your trying to make will catch on the existing pattern. If it is a deep artex pattern it will require. If you had fans or something it would be impossible and would require artexing over. I want to artex both. I've been told that you can't use blugrit as the lath won't. Although the general consensus seems to be not to tile over the artex, i have seen people suggest it should be ok if the texture is.
