Replacing Rear Main Seal Jeep 4.2. In this video i attempt to replace the rear main seal in my 1988 jeep. I just replaced the upper oil pan gasket and have the same exact symptoms after the replacement gasket is in place. I have decent skills, i just don't know if. I have read the haynes manual but it doesn't say much about it. I've confirmed there is no timing cover leak and the manifolds are dry as. Raise and support the vehicle on jackstands. I've got the tranny, transfer case,. I have put two neoprene rear seals in my cj and it still leaks. My rear main seal is leaking pretty bad, and i will be replacing it and was considering doing the timing set at the same time. I need to replace the rear main seal. My rear main seal is shot on my 89yj. (probably going to put it on a lift). Rear main seal replaced, still leaking oil on 4.2. Can anyone tell me how hard it is to change?
