One big difference I noticed with my kid's college vs. mine ('86-90) is that when I went, everyone left their dorm room doors open almost all the time and there was a lot more interaction between people living on your hallway. At my kid's school (and my friend's kid's school) they keep their doors shut all the time, so the kids are just isolated in their rooms looking at whatever type of.
