Final Drive Pinion Oil Seal. Second of two videos on how i replaced the final drive pinion shaft oil seal on my r100gs pd. Noticed a smallish leak from gear oil at pinion seal. Took off nut to get at the locking ring to replace the pinion seal. I removed the final drive as a part of getting new tires and lubing the splines etc, and noticed that there is some oil that appears to be. The final drive on my '08 was leaking fluid from the black plastic ring which surrounds the donut hole in the rear axle. The goal of this shop talk blog post is to familiarize you with the purpose of those seals, help you recognize them, and provide some hints for installing new seals. The pinion seal (in the drive shaft), the axle seal (the really hard one to replace) and the crown seal (the really big one).
