BMWs historically have had a distinct design objective which is 'The Ultimate Driving Machine'. However, modern (2014ish+) BMWs are less driver-focused but faster. They are generally still more sporty than their Mercedes counterparts and BMW does still make very good engines, but most of the popular products are generally more focused on technology than the driver.

If you find a good indy shop to do your work, or do it yourself it won't cost you much more. If you take your car to a BMW dealer, yes, you will definitely pay more than going to a Honda dealer. Unless it's an M car or you are tuning your car the reliability isn't that different, as long as I've had BMWs.

BMW 330i reasonable or stupid? I'm a new grad out of college that is looking to get a used BMW 330i. I just started my career at around 60k a year. The payments for the car I'm currently driving which is a CVT Civic is 350 a month, and I have about 10k of equity.

My car runs perfectly fine but the thing is I have absolutely no joy when driving it. BMW releases a new generation, it has a few common issues that annoy people and ruins their reputation. For example on the e36 they were released with a problematic water pump impeller.

Updated parts are designed and get put into cars once they come in for warranty work, or the aftermarket is quick to jump onto solutions. The reason why BMWs, Mercedes Benz, and Audi have a lower starting price is because they are less desirable towards used car buyers than something like Toyota or Honda. For Toyota and Honda, the cost of ownership is low, and since most used car buyers are frugal or aren't affluent, they tend to choose cars with lower cost of ownership.
