Building the Bench Frame

- Create the base by connecting two 60" 2x6 boards with two 36" 2x4 boards
- Attach four 18" 2x4 legs to the base, evenly spaced
- Add two 36" 2x4 boards along the back to create the backrest support
Adding the Backrest and Armrests
For added comfort, incorporate a backrest and armrests into your design:
- Attach two 36" 2x4 boards to the backrest support to create the backrest
- Add two 24" 2x4 armrests, attaching them to the bench frame
Constructing the Storage Compartments
Now that the bench frame is complete, let's build the storage compartments. For this design, we'll create two 18" W x 12" D x 12" H compartments:
- Cut four 18" 2x4 boards for the sides and bottom of each compartment
- Assemble the compartments using exterior wood glue and 2-1/2" deck screws
- Attach the compartments to the bench frame, ensuring they are level and secure
Adding the Seat and Lid
Complete your built-in bench with storage by adding the seat and lids for the storage compartments:
- Attach two 60" 2x6 boards to the bench frame to create the seat
- Cut and attach 1/4" plywood or composite material to create the lids for the storage compartments
- Install hinges and latches to secure the lids
Finishing Touches
Once your built-in bench with storage is complete, apply a weather-resistant sealant to protect it from the elements. Allow the sealant to dry, then add outdoor cushions or pillows for added comfort.
