Miata Camshaft Dowel Pin. Working on my friends miata and noticed the intake camshaft dowel pin is messed up. Basically what the title says. Sheared camshaft index pin/dowel/spigot puzzle. When at tdc, the dowel pin in each camshaft is at 12:00 o'clock and, that's tdc on cyl#1. Look to either fix the pin or get a new cam. Cylinder 1 lobescylinder2 3 4 intake 86.0 degrees btdc 4.0 degrees atdc 4.0 degrees abdc 86.0 degrees btdc exhaust 80.0. In the correct position, the #1 cyl cam. The timing dowel sheared off in the cam, flush with the face. I apparently wasn't triple checking everything and managed to damage the intake camshaft dowel/pin today. I was replacing my timing belt and water pump and the kit came with both cam seals and i figured why not change them… I have found and fixed the cause of the failure, but i need to get what.
