I like traditional bench types the most.and as such.i just resruface tops when they actually need it. I use melamine or plywood depending on whether i need a smooth nice looking surface or better durability. You can write on it and it erases easily. If you often work with chemicals that could taint or dirty your workbench top, you can always opt for a melamine workbench top. Does your bench have enough thickness to yield a new. My pole barn shop has one bench. Dried glue scrapes off, varnish spills don't stick and heavy projects slide on. I've heard it's easier to remove glue/paint/etc from a melamine top, i'm just concerned that it won't be as strong given that it tends to by made of particle.

My workbench is coming along slowly. I probably would be done if I didn’t keep changing my plans
