Took my car in for some work on the flywheel, gearbox etc and now have gotten it back and the heater doesn't put out any hot air at all. Even when I've been driving for 20mins the max temp on the dial is cold. Used to be real good and would literally put out warm air after 2min driving from cold start. Any ideas?

Why is my car heater not getting hot enough? Low coolant: Whether caused by a leak or water evaporation, low coolant is the most common source of poor heater output. Thermostat: A stuck-open thermostat prevents the engine (and coolant) from heating up. Heater core: A clogged heater core restricts coolant flow, giving up little or no heat.

The most likely cause of not hot air out of the HVAC is one of the diverter doors not functioning. Remove trim around it, like the glove box, driver's IP lower, etc. and operate each of the heater and cooling controls with the engine on and confirm the actuators operate, and when they do they actually move the doors they're attached to.

At 3 minutes you say you might not have heat if the thermostat is stuck closed causing the engine to overheat. My belief is that unless the heater core is low on coolant you'll actually get very hot heat since the water pump is still circulating coolant between the engine block and the heater, just not between the engine and the radiator.

Thermostat Malfunction One of the most common reasons for a Toyota heater not blowing hot air is a faulty thermostat. The thermostat is responsible for regulating the flow of coolant through the engine, and if it's not opening properly, the coolant won't circulate and heat up. This can result in the heater core not receiving enough hot coolant to warm the air being blown into the cabin.
