Paint Stock Jeep Rims Black. I have the stock wheels on my 97 xj and would like to paint them black. Pics and instruction:easy way to paint your stock rims black. I've got a long list of mods to start for my jk but i've been reading a lot about people painting their stock wheels. I suggest taking the tire. Since the cragar rims i ordered ended up being the wrong size, i just decided to keep the stock rims. I have seen a few posts suggesting duplicolor and krylon fusion. Wheels get hot from the breaks so using a high temp engine or break caliper paint is a good choice. Ok as far as prep work is concerned. Does anyone have an opinion. Sand the wheel down then wipe it off with paint thiner or something of the sort. Not dissing black rims, (well, maybe a little) but showing that spray bomb paint jobs can look pretty sweet. I haven't hear of any problems. Just like the topic says i'm going to buy a set of 17 inch stock jeep tires/rims from someone to replace my 16's.
