Our critical edition of Norma restores six major passages from Bellini's autograph to create an integral version of the opera. These passages were scored through lightly, probably during preparations for the premiere, and subsequently marked by Bellini si fa ["to be restored"]. It is probable that the difficulties of the first production necessitated last-minute cuts and alterations which Bellini decided afterwards to reinstate.
