Our edition of La sonnambula restores Elvino's scene and aria in Act Two to its original form. It features a cantilena for two valve trumpets, omitted in the Ricordi edition. This section is musically important: later phrases in the same scene recall it, and without it they make little sense. In addition, the Ricordi edition of No. 9 contains thickened and altered re-orchestrations of Bellini's autograph instrumentation. In our edition, Bellini's original orchestration has been restored, although in the traditional lower key.
In addition, our edition contains Bellini's original version of Amina's final aria, Ah non giunge and a smoother editorial modulation at the conclusion of No. 3.
