Chainsaw Crankcase Sealant at Anna Simmerman blog

Chainsaw Crankcase Sealant. I put this thread in chainsaw because it's almost like a chainsaw, but easier to rebuild, no brake and no oiler. Base gasket deletes coming on a couple of my saws…i’ve read & watched regarding the cylinder base sealants, but am a touch. Just use some mix oil on the rubber parts of the seals that come in contact with the crankshaft, no other lube or sealant is required. The shape of the seal should look no different installed than what it looks like before you install it. Do i really need to buy the expensive stihl brand sealant, or can i use standard high temp red rtv silicone? In the past i've tried pretty much every sealer available, some work better than others. I have heard that you can fill the crankcase with transmission fluid, and watch for leaks around the crank seals. Stihl genuine 066 (late) & ms660 crankcase seal (flywheel side) # 9640 003 1560. The first one i did. I have seen several posts here and on other forums about different sealants used on chainsaws. It would seem that there are many.
