Bmw Coolant Vent Line

If your line is cracked, you can repair it as shown. Once the engine runs hot, the coolant tank will usually crack when hot, & adding coolant or water. The thermostat could be bad, or there is no coolant in the system to make it work properly.

I would suggest to replace the coolant bypass line, & the expansion tank to protect the engine. This small steel pipe of the vent hose are being hold in place at the top of engine block between the (big) cooling steel pipes by a HEX 5mm, 6mm screw, which is very hard to reach. BMW TIS recommends removing engine wiring harness, fuel injection system and intake manifolds in order to reach this tiny screw.

The 'cylinder head ventilation line' had broken off at the cylinder head and was peeing out coolant. This is the subject of a service action / technical enhancement in the USA, with dealers actively calling customers in and replacing the line for free. My coolant level was dropping slowly and I've been topping it up over the past month so took it in for a check today. 3. Removed the vent pipe from the coolant resevoir side by pulling locking pin up and sliding the connector straight back away from the coolant resevoir. 4.

connected the new vent hose by doing the reverse of steps 2 and 3. The hose includes a new hose clamp for the radiator side. The part cost me $35 from Devon Hill BMW.
