Bmw K100 Coolant Change

Changing coolant and reducing fuel tank heat in BMW K-bikes, K1, K75, K100, K1100; 700 watt alternator. I'm changing the coolant on my 1986 K100RS. The manual specifies 2.8L in equalizing tank.

What in the heck does manual mean with "in equalizing tank"? According to the instructions here, I should poor the 2.8L of mixed coolant (60% distilled water and 40% antifreeze) through the system cap until fluid just starts to come from the filler neck and flow to the overflow tank. I did that, however. I have a 91 K100RS, recently acquired and I want to do a coolant change.

I was wondering if there are any shortcut methods that do not require complete removal of the fuel tank. I have the Clymer manual, but seems like alot of stuff to take off just to get to the radiator fill cap. Was going to replace the coolant in the K bike. However, where the manual shows a 5mm drain plug in the water/oil pump housing I have a coolant temp sensor installed for the water temp indicator. Any advice on which would be better to pull to drain the old coolant? The temp sensor or the water.

I looked at the coolant path diagram in the BMW Repair Manual and it would seem to indicate that the water pump and thus the coolant temperature sensor are on the radiator side of the thermostatic valve.
