BMW recommends their house brand coolent and there are alot of Kbike owners that will go with whatever BMW recommends. Personally, as long as the container says something like "safe for aluminum" and it is a name brand you are probably OK to use it. I have put 130+ thousand miles on my K75S and have always used plain old Prestone without a problem.

$$$$ Personally, I use Peak Long Life Coolant. Been using it for 6 years now in 5 different bricks with no issues. I change every other year which translates to about 6,000 miles on my commuter bikes and 12,000 to 15,000 on my touring K75RT.

As far. For what it's worth, the bmw brand coolant (from the car dealer) is essentially the same price as any other coolant that seems to fulfil the "Nitrate, phosphate, etc free" that is spec'd for the bike. Last time I bought it, I think it was $17 for a gallon of undiluted stuff, which makes enough for 2 fills of the system on a K75.

About two weeks ago, after experiencing repeated coolant leaks, I had my oil/water pump serviced with new gear and seal. Since the bike has 86k miles on it, the components were well worn. Today, the leak has returned.

I mix the coolant with distilled water in a 50/50 mixture. Usually when replacing the coolant I will drain the old coolant; then fill the radiator and engine with pure distilled water. I run the bike for a short while to circulate the water with the old coolant.

Before you start the engine again, check the coolant level un the overflow tank and in the filler. Top up the level in the filler and bring the level about half way between the high and low marks on the overflow tank. Start the engine and let it warm up while you carefully squeeze any.
