IMO, LL01 is only one acceptable if wear is concerned, especially tuned engine. Yes, B generation is DI, like all BMW engines since 2010. So, what you want is high HTHS oil.

I'm picking up a Grenadier maybe this week that uses the B58 powerplant. A problem I'm having is figuring out the proper spec oil I should run after break-in. I'm in Texas where it's very hot in the summer but will be road tripping around.

I know there's BMW LL01 and LL04. I've read that LL04 is a newer and. Any LL01 oil should technically be fine, my personal recommendation would be Shell Helix Ultra 5W-30.

FE would be the fuel economy (lower friction) specification. New BMW's fitted with BXX series engines (B58, B48, etc) "require" 0W-20 LL14FE+ Rated oils. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND using this spec! The levels of protection LL14FE provides are much lower than bmw's previous standard LL01.
