BMW eDrive technologies and Efficient Dynamics are at the very heart of our premium vehicles, because when it comes to dynamic driving, more powerful electric motors and increased-capacity energy storage are fundamental, while maximum torque ensures fast acceleration right from the get. The vehicle's fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology comprises a drive unit in which electric motor, system electronics and transmission are brought together into a central housing. At Plant Landshut, where some of the BMW's most advanced electric components are developed, we attended a workshop that provided an inside look at the Neue Klasse's electric drivetrain.

BMW's fifth-generation eDrive units can be effectively summarized as three-phase AC synchronous motors, and the design is said to translate to higher rpm, increased torque, and more power. The new BMW iX3 ushers in a new era of driving pleasure. Unveiled at IAA Mobility in Munich, this first production model of the Neue Klasse features a bold new design language, sixth-generation eDrive technology, impressive electric range and charging performance, and the advanced BMW Panoramic iDrive.

With the new sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology (Gen6 for short), the BMW Group is making a technological quantum leap. Improvements on the product side include a 30% faster charging speed and 30% increase in range, with certain models achieving even higher figures. The electric drive concept BMW eDrive offers maximum driving pleasure - and does so almost silently and without emissions.

The primary drivetrain remains an electrically excited synchronous motor (EESM), while Neue Klasse vehicles will also incorporate an asynchronous motor (ASM).
