BMW's Second-Gen X7 Is Surprisingly Familiar And Very Different All At Once The luxury full-size crossover appears to eschew the Neue Klasse look, but it could offer electric power. Reports indicate that a redesigned BMW X7 is set to arrive in early 2028 with production of both gas. BMW has officially announced that its flagship X7 will make a grand comeback in 2027.

This news follows the brand's wider product roadmap, which includes both refreshed internal-combustion models and a growing stable of electric vehicles. With the current X7 already sitting atop BMW's SUV line-up, its successor is expected to push the boundaries of premium design and innovative tech even. BMW will build the electric versions of the upcoming X5 and X7 SUVs-most likely called the iX5 and iX7-at its Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, the company confirmed for Wards Auto.

BMW, a brand that built its rep on German engineering, is going all-in on American manufacturing, for its most luxurious, battery-powered SUVs no less. Starting mid-decade, the all-electric versions of the X5, X6, and X7 will roll off the line at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. The current 'S68' V8 in the X7 was adapted to a plug-in hybrid set-up for the BMW M5 performance sedan and wagon, meeting Euro 6d emissions standards and making it a logical fit for the 2027 X7.

Electric versions of the X7, badged 'iX7', could use the 800V tech being developed for the battery.
