Are these the same coolant? About to do a refresh of the cooling system. I can get the Zerex much easier and can find it pre. Can anyone tell me the difference between G-05 and G-48 zerex antifreeze fluids? I have a 91 BMW 318i, and the current concensus is that G-48 blue is the stuff to use, as its designed for the aluminum they use in the blocks and heads of the engines.

Some people use G. The 07 328 (n52) uses G48 class coolant. It's blue in color.

Use only the blue. The best is BMW coolant (not that expensive), followed by Pentosin NF (again blue, available in most auto parts stores), and I believe Zerex has a G48 coolant -- you'll need to look for it. Read the label -- it'll tell you if it needs distilled water 50% or is premixed.

Zerex G-05 (Glysantin G-05) is very similar--though not the same--to BMW OE coolant (Glysantin G-48) and I really wouldn't hesitate to use it. Volvo blue and Mercedes blue are the same as BMW blue. You can also use Pentosin NF, which is also basically the same thing, but more expensive.

Zerex G48 is BMW antifreeze. They are chemically identical. I would think that if you can get Zerex G05, you should probably go with G48 since it is ever so slightly different from G05.

G48 spec Zerex coolant from Valvoline is exactly the same coolant as manufactured for BMW. This spec is made by many companies, including BASF, etc - however, it's not available retail in North America, unless you go to a dealer. You should not use generic "anti-freeze", be it a house brand or Prestone.
Google "g48 antifreeze" G48 is the BMW standard. Zerex G-05 and others work fine. But they're almost as expensive as the BMW OEM (which is probably Zerex since it's made by Castrol and guess who is BMW's OEM supplier).
