It seems all the big box stores only sell MDF, and I won't spend thousands on that crap. The cabinet shops around do great work, but that is definitely not even close to affordable. Are there any cabinets that are, plywood construction instead of MDF that won't bankrupt me? Preferably color, as I've got wood floors and walls.
Has anyone tried going the DIY route for kitchen cabinets to save on remodel costs? (self.HomeImprovement) submitted 3 hours ago by No-Street-7057 I've been working on a kitchen remodel project recently, and like most people right now, we're trying to keep costs down without sacrificing too much on quality. We reviewed the best kitchen cabinet brands, including stock, semi-custom and custom options for all budgets from IKEA, Hampton Bay, Wellbrand and more. After building custom kitchens for 15+ years, I've installed everything from $50,000 luxury builds to $3,000 IKEA kitchens.
Here's what I've learned: expensive doesn't always mean better, and affordable doesn't always mean cheap. The average kitchen remodel costs $28,000, with cabinets eating up 30-40% of that budget ($8,400-$11,200). A smaller, local, family-owned cabinet retailer. I was able to work one-on-one with the operations manager, and while I had come in looking at some mass-market stock cabinets, he was able to get me into some semi-custom cabinets. That let me get all plywood boxes, full extension drawers, and custom cabinet faces.
The interior design pros at HGTV.com share the best places to buy inexpensive kitchen cabinets for your home in 2022, including Cabinets To Go, The Home Depot, IKEA, Lowe's and more. I saved so much money with IKEA cabinets. I think it was $15k for two kitchens with appliances (two stoves, two dishwashers, sinks, faucets, garbage disposals).
IKEA: Six weeks; $15k for all (cabinets, hardware, countertops, appliances, installation) but cabinets and doors were very inexpensive. Looking for the best value on kitchen cabinets We're buying a house and the kitchen needs a total overhaul. Originally I was leaning towards IKEA and/or Semi Handmade, but the more I looked thru this sub, the less sold I was.
Has anyone had them for 5+ years, or found solid wood for a decent price elsewhere?
