Visiting Choirs Just as our Abbey Choir performs at holy sites around the world, we welcome visiting choirs to Bath. Join us for the whole weekend, from Saturday Evensong to the Sunday services, rehearsing and dressing in the Choir Vestry before singing within the ancient surrounds of the Abbey. About the choir Bath Abbey Choir comprises three groups - Boys (8 years and upwards), Girls (11 to 18 years) and a Back Row of Lay Clerks that includes female altos.

Boys and girls are selected from a wide range of local schools. "To further inspire the young voices of tomorrow, we spread a love of singing and draft in new talent through a singing programme for local schoolchildren and our. Bath Choral Society is an enthusiastic and committed choir of around 90 voices.

We sing a wide range of sacred and secular choral music, and together with leading soloists and orchestras, we perform five concerts in and around Bath each year, including two performances of Handel's Messiah in Bath Abbey every December. This beautiful service lasts for approximately 45 minutes and combines the memorable cadences of Thomas Cranmer's Book of Common Prayer with a distinctive repertoire of English Church music.

We also have a wonderful opportunity to hear the complete organ works of J.S. Bach performed throughout the year by our Director of Music Huw Williams. During term-time these services are sung by the Abbey's choirs of Girls and Lay-clerks, or Boys and Lay-clerks.

Occasionally these services may be sung by the Bath Abbey Chamber Choir and during the holidays, by visiting choirs. Please note this service is filmed and live. To commemorate this landmark year, Bath Abbey Boys' Choir, alongside the esteemed Lay Clerks, will present a series of spectacular concerts and events throughout 2025, offering audiences the chance to experience the beauty and power of choral music in the heart of Bath.
