Suttle Stone Quarries is a family-run business in Dorset Quarrying in the Isle of Purbeck since the 1930s. Today, Purbeck stone is still quarried in the Isle of Purbeck using open-cast methods, and all of the quarries are based on the Southern ridge of the valley. Many of these quarries are family-owned, having been worked by generations of quarrymen, with some quarries being worked by the same family from the mid. W J Haysom & Son has operated St Aldhelm's Quarry and Masonry Works since 1934.

Apart from the fact that it is part of the geology of the Purbeck hills and was therefore formed in a distant and evolutionary era, the stone has been a part of peoples lives, or should I say livelihoods, for many years.
