Haysom Purbeck Stone is an 11th-generation family business specialising in the quarrying and working of Purbeck stone. Our masonry works are located in the heart of Purbeck, to the East end of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site in Dorset. Lovell Stone Group is the local stone supplier that carries out the quarrying and processing of their beautiful Purbeck Stone in Langton Matravers, near Swanage on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset.

Our Purbeck stone quarries are known for their high-quality Purbeck limestone. We extract from a number of different stone quarries in the area, enabling us to offer the full range of Purbeck beds. Purbeck stone is an attractive limestone which can vary in colour and often has a very high fossil content.

Coupled with the fact that it is extremely durable and hard wearing it makes and ideal material for a wide range of uses including building, landscaping, internal and external paving and fireplace hearths to name but a few. For over 80 years, Lewis Quarries has been the cornerstone of Purbeck Stone extraction on the Isle of Purbeck. Nestled alongside the historic Priests Way, between Worth Matravers and Langton Matravers, our quarry stands as a testament to our commitment to quality and tradition.

Suttle Stone Quarries is a family-run business in Dorset Quarrying in the Isle of Purbeck since the 1930s. We are renowned for supplying high-quality Dorset limestone, aggregates and decorative materials from our two quarries on the Jurassic Coast: Swanworth Quarry in Worth Matravers and California Quarry in Swanage. Additionally, we have a Stone and Recycling Depot near Tower Park in Poole.

Today, Purbeck stone is still quarried in the Isle of Purbeck using open-cast methods, and all of the quarries are based on the Southern ridge of the valley. Many of these quarries are family-owned, having been worked by generations of quarrymen, with some quarries being worked by the same family from the mid. W J Haysom & Son has operated St Aldhelm's Quarry and Masonry Works since 1934.

This quarry is the source of Purbeck-Portland stone (Spangle and Pond Freestone). Over the past 85 years many prestigious projects have been carried out in their workshops. T he stone that shapes the contours of the Isle of Purbeck and is today quarried for its properties as a building/ornamental material, has deep rooted origins.

Apart from the fact that it is part of the geology of the Purbeck hills and was therefore formed in a distant and evolutionary era, the stone has been a part of peoples lives, or should I say livelihoods, for many years. Today its. Because there is such a long history of winning stone on Purbeck there are also some intriguing, even exciting, stories, including those from the Purbeck Marblers archives involving the illegal selling of quarries and avoidance of royalties going back to the Civil War of the 17 th century.
