Lower Air Dam 2011 Silverado. i am thinking of taking of that plastic lower air dam. I was wondering if there are negative effects in doing so. Changing the fuel filter today i noticed that. It will look much better just by removing the lower half. does anyone know if removing the front lower air dam on the gmt800 silverado actually has an effect on mpg? My truck is a 2016 gmc sierra 2500, any gm truck around 201. everytime i get under my truck i notice how low the air dam is to the ground. i have removed the lower half of the air dam. in this video i show you how to remove the front air dam/lower valance off your sierra/silverado. i removed mine due to ground clearance but also stepped up to lts in a larger size so i have no clue how much my mpg change is due to tire (probably 99%). the air dam likely improves flow through the lower portion of the radiator. You can remove the lower section to get a more tucked up look, without creating that odd center void in the bumper. There are about 18 screws holding it on.
