What on earth is a bathing pavillion? I was reading about the history of Coney Island and read about this establishment called, "Brighton Beach Bathing Pavilion" that opened in 1878 and had a "capacity for 1,200 bathers". I've been googling this term and I have no idea what this means. He would build an even larger bathing pavilion than he had intended, to accommodate the crowds arriving on the new railroad.
