However if you're talking about the transition period of 1995 - 1998 it would go there. Y2K era in late 1998 was actually the start of 2000s culture and the new millennium. Primarily thanks to the popularity of the internet, but other stuff too.

And so 1997 wouldn't be core '90s either which there wouldn't be any after 1995. There always seem to be differing answers on this, and never a set standard. I've always believed 90-94 was early, 95-97 was mid, and 98.

Late '90s - Spring 1997 to 31 December 1999 * Starts here because the proper grunge movement was dead by this point and only had vague, post-grunge vestiges leftover, teen pop became popular in the US again with the Spice Girls, Hanson, Backstreet Boys, Savage Garden, etc.; West Coast gangsta rap lost momentum and was replaced by No Limit, Puff. The term "late 1990s" specifically refers to the last few years of the 1990s, namely 1997, 1998, and 1999. In contrast, "1990s" refers to the entirety of the decade from 1990 to 1999.

I'd split the 1990's like this: 1991 - Early 1996: Classic '90s The introspectively edgy, very 'Xer' oriented, cynical, 'grungy' version of the '90s. Mid 1996 - 2000: Modern '90s The positive, bubbly, Millennium-based, optimistic, prosperous, poppy version of the '90s that was more crass in its edginess and was sort of the transition from Xer to Millennial oriented youth culture. As much as I.

Well the actual late '90s is 1997-1999, but the late '90s "era" extends until 2001. Yeah. I think from a 2003 perspective, 2000, 2001, and even 1999 seem rather '00s, but since the "real '00s" came about around 2003 the pre-9/11 '00s fit in more with the late '90s than now.

Subject:Re: What is the "late '90s"? Personally, I think that 1997. Based on fashion, music, television, movies, technology, culture in general, etc., would you say the late 90s, being 1997-1999 or so, belong more with.

I'd say that 90 to 93 would be early 90s, 94 to 96 would be mid, and 97 to 99 would be late. 1996-1999: late 90's If you go 99% accurate. January 1, 1990-April 30, 1993: early 90's May 1, 1993-August 31, 1996: mid 90's September 1, 1996-December 31, 1999: late 90's The same scenario would go for any decade in general if some were to ask you what would be considered as early, mid, or late.
