The Brightroom label might be the cheapest, most "off brand" looking label we have. It looks cheaper than Room Essentials. It looks more like a dollar store logo than Up and Up.
And yeah a lot of it is just rebranded. I'm pretty sure all of our brand plastic storage comes from HMS /Sterilite or whatever anyway. It seems like Target has a ton of private label brands, including Threshold, Made by Design, Room Essentials, Project 62, Opalhouse, Fieldcrest, and maybe more I haven't even heard of.

What's the difference between them? My impression is Room Essentials = cheap, low quality, largely for college students and similar. Here is the reason why: Room Essentials and Closet Maid are the same product. I suspected something the moment I opened the Room Essentials box.
It said "ClosetMaid." There is one difference: The instructions. The instructions from ClosetMaid seem to have more clear diagrams. For the sake of this comparison, I assembled the product.

We have both, used for different reasons. Can't say they're dramatically different. I would probably go with whatever is most convenient, in case you need to return for any reason, or buy more in the future.
Or if one line offers different combinations than the other, consider if you might want one of those in the future and choose that line. Room Essentials ran from 1999 to 2017, closing in 2017, while Brightroom ran until 2015. Room Essentials was known as a budget home decor and furniture store, while Brightroom provided consumers with a chance to store and print photos.

Target definitely uses a less thicker frame (Brightroom is a target brand just like their room essentials brand) so that might be something for you to consider. Just means more minimalism to me. For example, I assume room essentials would be the lowest quality.
