K40 Relay Symptoms. Attempting to turn over, alternator etc. My 1998 slk230 just started symptoms of k40 relay issues. The k40 relay is located in the control module box, under the hood. The dash lights come on and when i press the throttle, the engine does not respond although it is still running. Both part suppliers said it is located right front under hood, but i don't see anything that looks. Many first generation r170 slks eventually have issues starting up due to a faulty relay. I found what appears to be a k40 relay, but not the k40 relay module described in previous posts. Step by step guide on how to fix a common problem with the k40 relay unit in a r170 series mercedes. The battery level seems fine when i tested. Dashboard and headlights turn on, but no crank when i turn the key.
