Black Background White Sand Aquarium. I decided to post this so people can see the difference between black and white sand in the same setup and see what they like better. Black sand shows fish color better if you don’t grow. Can't decide what color sand i should get. I have white sand in my malawi tank and natural tan in my tang tank (both painted black background). I'm sure you've seen lots of photos of tanks with white sand. Not too many black sand tanks out there, so here's a few photos of my black sand tank to. White sand reflects light and provides better light distribution to the bottom of plants. I used white sand for my 55 gallon and now i wish it was black. I'm most likely doing black background. You can see everything on white, especially diatoms and algae. I really like tan > white specially with rock work and proper lighting.in terms of affecting.
