The Amazon Fire TV Recast among the best ways to stream and record over-the-air channels through a Fire TV or Fire TV Stick. It has a lot of great features, but the one thing I'm asked about the most is if there's a way to pull recordings off of the device. Amazon, via TechHive I thought this was a shame because Recast was a solid broadcast TV DVR that had great integration with the Amazon Fire TV Stick.

Despite what Amazon said in their statement, there isn't really a replacement "app" for what the Recast did, namely, record broadcast TV shows on a local hard drive. Did you register your device to the Recast while on the same network? Does it not leverage AWS for streaming content through the internet tubes They say you can watch content when away but I never tried it. Supposedly the device your watching with needs to be registered with the Recast and the network the Recast is on needs to have good upload.

The Amazon Fire TV Recast DVR may not be much to look at, yet the new entrant appears somewhat hackable as AFTVNews has just documented how to offload recordings. Of course, there are tons of reasons why you might want to do this - such as overcoming Amazon ecosystem lock-in, facilitate offline viewing, or to allow something like Plex to manage your entire video library. Unfortunately, it.

I'm assuming the recent issue with series not recording is the future for Amazon Recast. I do hope Amazon understands this means I'll be looking to move away from Fire devices, and everyone else should be also. So what are the best options out there that provide integrated DVR recordings of OTA stations along with streaming services?

I believe he is referencing the fact that WiFi (Recast to the router / router to the Fire TV / Recast to the Fire TV) can influence the image quality. Also under some conditions the Fire TV will automatically connect to the Recast's WiFi even if it's configured for Ethernet you can disable such in the ("Disable Congestion Optimizer") 711 page. Haven't seen many (any?) posts on the lonely old Amazon FireTV Recast on Troypoint insider.

I've used one for over 3 years and am extremely pleased with it. It provides broadcast TV throughout my home in an effortless and reliable way. I have 6 rooms with 6 TVs, each of which has it's own firestick interface.

Free 1TB DVR service (some folks have had issues with this, I haven't). Free. My recast has always been buggy, have to reset the network connection repeatedly and now with atsc 3.0 coming and AZ deciding to discontinue the recast I need a change.

With access to the internal hard drive of the Amazon Fire TV Recast, it's easy to transfer video recordings off of the internal drive. This guide will walk you through how it's done and explain why you may want to do it in the first place. In August, Amazon officially stopped selling the Fire TV Recast over-the-air DVR, although it does still occasionally show up as available for purchase in limited quantities, such as right now where I'm seeing Amazon list one in stock.
