ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A new community of micro-homes is starting to take shape in College Park. Growing up in southwest Atlanta, Booker Washington didn't think homeownership was attainable for everyone.
"A lot of what was presented to me in southwest Atlanta was you could live in an apartment," Washington said. The development, spearheaded by Atlanta-native, Booker T. Washington, will include 29 micro homes ranging in size from 335 to 610 square feet.
The price tags? Between $180,000 and $230,000. It's the first black-owned tiny house community in Georgia and from the response, it appears to be much needed. The community is the first of its kind in Atlanta and the first Black-owned micro community in the country.
Washington's dream is now making owning a home a reality for many. Black real estate developers, Booker T. Washington, CEO and Rashad Jones-Jennings, COO are following this trend and breaking barriers with the creation of South Park Cottages in College Park, GA.
South Park Cottages (nickname- THE PARK) is making history across state and nationwide becoming the 1st black-developed and 7th largest micro/tiny home community in the United States and the largest. Booker Washington is making homeownership more accessible for urban communities. He is the founder of Techie Homes, a real estate company that designs "smart micro-communities" in Atlanta, GA, priced below current market rates, according to its company website.
"Accessible homeownership is an issue in Atlanta," he told Business Insider. That's the reality for residents of South Park Cottages, a unique tiny home community in Atlanta, Georgia. South Park Cottages is the first Black-developed and Black-owned tiny home community in the United States.
It was created by Booker T. Washington, a visionary developer who wanted to make homeownership more affordable and community. The community is designed to foster social interaction, with shared amenities and a focus on sustainable living.
