The oil fill cap tends to become a "cooling tower" where hot gases from the crankcase condense on the inside of the plastic cap which is cooled by the outside ambient air. Typically, people will report a gelatin like substance, or "mayonaise" deposited inside the cap. It is a combination of combustion by-products, fuel and moisture.
Noticed a rusty orange color inside oil cap and down in the tube Was quite alarming at first. The rust color is just condensation from the crankcase, usually from not running it long enough to get good and warm-cooking off the moisture.
It is not a problem. I put 240,000 miles on my first truck ('02) and have 150,000 miles on my second one, neither one has used a drop of oil during their life with me. I always used Mobile 1.

the underside of the cap and the inside of the valve cover had a rust red colored substance coating all surfaces. when I wiped off the oil cap, the stuff almost loooked like red.
