Disciples Making Movement

Disciple-making movements (DMMs) have become a powerful force in modern Christianity, witnessing remarkable growth and transformation in various parts of the world. In this blog post, we will explore some inspiring examples from David Garrison's book, Church Planting Movements, where disciple. A friend of mine who leads a very effect disciple making church (over 7,000 in attendance and in discipling groups and they have planted over 10 other disciple making churches) shared with me some concerns about putting too much emphasis on Disciple Making Movements (DMM).

A disciple-making movement (DMM) is characterized by a rapid and exponential increase in disciples making disciples. These movements share a distinct group of priorities which provide the environment for viral multiplication. Disciple making movements apply this biological truth spiritually.

In the over 1,800 movements that exist today, local followers of Jesus (simple sheep) actively disciple their lost friends and family, planting new churches. Disciple making is more than a ministry strategy; it's a way of life. These churches are showing us that when we prioritize the mission Jesus gave us, the church becomes what it was always meant to be: a multiplying movement of ordinary people who follow Jesus and help others do the same.

A Disciple Making Movement is when God uses ordinary people to start a Kingdom movement among a people/city/region. Forgetting tradition, people use simple Biblical strategies so that every disciple is making disciples, groups of disciples (churches) birth new groups of disciples, and leaders reproduce leaders. It reaches the movement stage when this is consistently happening 4.

Disciple-making movements (DMM) and church planting movements (CPM) are more than just buzzwords-they represent controversial methodologies that are dividing missionaries along organization and theological lines. Do these methodologies represent faulty views of conversion or ecclesiology, or are the critics guilty of prayerlessness and quenching the Holy Spirit? We've explored these topics. But in a disciple-making movement, the leader's role is to facilitate, not control.

A true leader empowers others to engage with scripture, discover its meaning for themselves, and obey it. Defining Disciple Making Movement (DMM) A Disciple Making Movement can be described as a supernatural outpouring of God's Spirit that leads to the rapid multiplication of obedient followers of Jesus (disciples) within an unreached people group or a specific geographical area. A disciple-making movement is a rapid multiplication of disciples that results in a new church planting movement.

The goal is to reach those who have never heard the gospel and to see the church grow and multiply rapidly. There are numerous examples of disciple-making movements around the world, and in this post, we will examine some of them.
