Harrogate Council Election Results

Harrogate and Scarborough Town Council Elections - Thursday, 1 May 2025 Status: Published Harrogate and Scarborough Town Council Elections. The Count for the Harrogate Town Council Elections took place today (2 May 25). Here are the full results of yesterday's Harrogate Town Council election.

The Liberal Democrats won 15 seats to take control of the newly formed council, the Conservatives won two, Reform UK won one and independent Paul Haslam won one. The election took place following the launch of the unitary North Yorkshire Council and the abolition of the county's town and borough councils in 2023.

This left only Harrogate and Scarborough without a second tier of local government, with town and parish councils already established elsewhere in the county. One third of Harrogate Borough Council in North Yorkshire, England was elected each year, followed by one year without election.

From the final boundary changes in 2002, 54 councillors were elected from 35 wards. [1] The last elections were held in 2018, ahead of the abolition of Harrogate Borough Council on 31 March 2023. Its functions transferred to North Yorkshire Council.

At the parish tier of local government the election date also included elections for new town councils for the town areas of Harrogate and Scarborough. They were the only areas of North Yorkshire left without parish council level of government when North Yorkshire became a unitary authority in 2023 with the abolition of seven district councils.
