A former HGTV host told me once if you are painting your house yourself and sticking to the same color just paint one side a year. That way you aren't tackling the whole house and can make it more manageable for a DIY homeowner. I however didn't listen and tried paint my whole house in one year, it was a beast of a job.

My home has reached the point where I need to focus my attention on exterior maintenance. I was looking into re-siding and replacing my fence. The fence I can afford, but siding is just out of my budget.
A thought to get around this was to paint the current siding (wood and an unfortunate aluminum side). I live in a ranch in the Chicagoland area, with gabled ends (2 sides of the house have. hands down best exterior paints? going to be tackling full exterior paint job soon.
obviously makes sense to go with the best if it means getting 10 years out of the job and not 5 or 6. will be painting over existing acrylic latex which is in 100% good shape, no peeling or bubbling. Handy homeowners need not spend thousands of dollars on professional home painters.
