Bmw 8 Series V12

The BMW E31 is the first generation of the BMW 8 Series. It is a grand tourer built by BMW from 1990 to 1999 as a 2-door coupé, powered by either a V8 or V12 engine. Whilst it did supplant the original E24 based 6 Series in 1990, it was not a direct successor, but a new model class with a substantially higher price and performance than the 6 Series.

BMW introduced the 8 Series for the 1991 model year. The first generation of 8 Series is known as the E31. This new series of cars were luxury grand tourers, offered with V8 or V12 engine options.

A total of four model series were offered, each with it's own transmission options: 840Ci - Automatic, 840Ci - Manual, 850i - Manual, 850i - Automatic, 850Ci - Manual, 850Ci - Automatic, 850CSi. BMW was aiming for the same customers as the Porsche 928 and made its intentions clear by launching the E31 with a 5.0-litre V12 engine. This was the first production V12-powered car to be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox, or customers could opt for a four.
