Bmw K Vs R Bikes

I've never had a BMW motorcycle but have wanted one for years. Normally, it was a GS bike, but I've wandered to other models based on my less than $7k price range (not many GS's). There's a lot of other R and K bikes for sale near me in that range, it's almost overwhelming to choose between them.

I've read lots of opinions on both bikes but still can't decide. I've looked at the K1200RS/GT. For those of you with K bikes (and maybe someone that previously owner an R) do you find the K's to be smoother and more comfortable? Would I be happier with a K1200GT? I still love the riding style, form factor and look of a BMW touring machine, and don't want to switch to another manufacturer.
