I heard the 99 Tercel takes second place after 99 Corolla for cars that last forever, how true is that? I ask because I'm looking at buying another Tercel or Corolla and, as another post said, am thinking about rebuilding an engine. Scotty Kilmer says so: If you don't want to watch his video, he says that they have problems with head gaskets blowing and oil leaks from the valve stem seals.

Toyota Tercels - owned one, or had experience with one? They were a bit of an 'odd-duck' car from the start - In 1980, Toyota had the Starlet, a rear-drive hatchback that looked the exact same as the Tercel, and had the same engine. But, they brought out the more modern, front-drive Tercel, and the Starlet disapeared soon after that. After doing a lot of my own research, (utilizing this site for much of it) I came to the conclusion that the Tercel four-wheel-drive wagon was the best choice for me.
My final days with my Tercel. Seeing her off tomorrow. :( : r/Toyota
