The last two leases I had $6K and $7K equity because the buyout was absurdly low compared to the actual value of the car. I also haven't had to pay a penny in maintenance the last 6 years with an Acura and Toyota leases. Do your homework and it can definitely work for you.
A lease is basically just buying a car with a pre-agreed upon price (residual) that you will sell it back to the dealership (or bank) at the end of the loan. over the course of the lease term you pay for the depreciation (sale price minus residual) plus the finance charge, which is basically like interest on the balance, but the math is a bit. Financing takes the pressure of how much you drive off in case you drive more than you anticipate within a typical lease term (but some will let you buy more mileage on a lease should you go over your contracted amount, at least Toyota/Lexus and Nissan do).

2024 vs 2023 and pricing/depreciation Considering a BZ4X. I see that the 2024 BZ4X starts at $43K on Toyota's website but I see tons of 2023 models out there with 0-5000 miles in the pre-owned market for around $33K. Don't go to World Toyota in Chamblee. They were selling base Corollas for $25-26k after "adjustment". Meaning that a lease would be $400/month FOR A COROLLA.
