#Camperolla car camping in a small 1998 Toyota Corolla I got Camperolla when I was 16 and had it for 18 years until 2021 when I upgraded to a minivan. Camperolla had about 270,000 miles on it and went through 40 states. I started sleeping in Camperolla back in 2010 on my first long distance road trip from Alabama to Alaska.
I used a jigsaw to profile the board to fit in easily, and added legs (on hinges to help with storage) to the front end behind the seats. Then I bought 4'' mattress foam and profiled that away as well. Worked great for early access to trails and quick camping trips, though a bit difficult to side sleep!
As a vehicle you'd never expect to be camping in, [Gongfucius] maintains that the sleeping arrangements in this Corolla aren't as crowded as you might think, but are downright luxurious when solo. I transformed my 2021 Toyota Corolla into a camping car by removing the seats and building a full bed setup in the back. Now it's comfortable enough to sleep in and perfect for road trips.
I'm looking into getting a corolla cross but I'm curious has anyone gone or considered going car camping in it? And I mean sleeping in the car type of car camping not like bringing a tent and just carrying it in the cargo area (I'm quite sure it could handle that), but I love the idea of being. I wouldn't recommend this for extended stays or serious camping but in my case it's perfect for the overnight mountain bike trips (I've just never liked tent camping) with enough room for my mtb gear, camping chair, and a medium sized cooler.
