Bmw K1200s Brake Failure Warning Light

A couple of rides after the installation the brake fluid level dropped below the min mark in the rear resovoir resulting in a slow flashing ABS warning light. I had to top it up a couple of times with brake fluid to fix it. It all works fine now. It may be a bit premature to say this but it seems that problems with the ABS is "reasonably common.

Hi; I have a 2006 K1200s that every once in a while you have to turn ignition off and on to get rid of the the flashing ABS brake failure light also when the light was flashing the brake would lose alot of there effectiveness. Now the light will not go off and the brake light doesn't work. Any.

I have a 2002 r1150rt with about 50k miles on it. Yesterday I went for a ride, first time in over a month. About a half mile from my house the Brake Failure light started flashing, alternating with the light below it with the Exclamation! mark. I stopped and shut the bike off, turned the key off.

A quick dab of the brake lever confirmed my worst suspicions; no servo assistance and so effectively no brakes Whilst considering my options, which included setting fire to the bloody thing, after about 3/4 mile, the light suddenly went out and the brakes came back to me.

I have a K1200s (UK 2006 model) with only 9000 miles on the clock. Last week the Brake failure light came on, however the brakes have continued to work fine. Unfortunately when I turn the engine off a pump continues to run and flattens the battery if left for a while. I took it to a dealer.

On these K1200GT with longitudinal "brick" engine the rear bulb is being monitored / controlled by the ABS modulator (tail and brake light filament in same bulb). HOWEVER, when / if you have a bulb failure (tail or brake circuit), it will show as a STEADY General-Warning only (the red triangle symbol). Because he said he is seeing a flashing warning, this falls into another type of defect.

This is entirely logical since the ABS system needs to know your battery can drive the ABS motors when needed under braking decel. (alternator low output). When the bike has been left standing and cold, your ABS warning lights become your 'battery condition monitor'. That's more useful than a BMW service light, which only dealers can reset!
