I understand BMW says not to. It seems that other automakers that use the same ATE brakes do use lubricant on the slide pins as well as ATE themselves market a caliper grease that they say can be used on slide pins. Their system does appear to encapsulate the slide pins 100% so the risk of moisture (causing rust) or contaminants getting in there is pretty minimal but there's really no harm in.

If either pin gets brake fluid or other corrosion that would keep the caliper from moving freely and could hold one side of the caliper against the rotor. Premature pad wear and even faster rotor wear can result. I check for free movement occasionally and if needed use brake grease on the pins.

This is all in reference to my 1100RT. None. BMW doesnt lube caliper slide pins.

Why don't you believe the Bentley? Because the Bentley is not always correct. Notably, I followed the wheel torque recommendation of 75 ft-lbs for my E36 and almost lost my rear wheels twice; I was fortunate that I noticed loosening bolts before I lost a wheel on the road!
