BMW R80G/S BMW R100GS Paris-Dakar The first BMW GS model was the R80G/S powered by a 797.5 cm³ air-cooled, 2 cylinder boxer engine. [9] It was powered by the BMW 247 engine which was also fitted to many other bikes in the BMW range of the time. This engine is known as the "airhead" because it relies on airflow across both the cylinders and cylinder heads to provide the majority of its cooling.

In 1994, the R 1100 GS appeared on the market; the first Enduro with a four-valve engine. It captivates with light offroad handling, combined with outstanding touring characteristics on the road. The successor model R 1150 GS continues writing the success story of BMW Motorrad dual-sport motorcycles, as does the R 1150 GS Adventure.

Production years: 2017. That was until BMW introduced the R 80 G/S, a new landmark in motorcycle design for both on and off-road use. BMW's new boxer model offered the first convincing evidence that off-road capability, a high degree of active safety, cornering fun and touring comfort for two people and their luggage could be brought together in the same machine.

Its success is built on a unique balance. 1987 saw the BMW Enduro enter its second generation: R 80 GS and R 100 GS were the names given to the successor model, the oblique in the model designation having been deleted. Once again it was the frame that was the focus of further development.

Thanks to a new rear wheel swing-arm by the name of Paralever. The legendary BMW GS began in 1980. It was then in southern France when BMW Motorrad presented the world with the first large dual-sport motorcycle, the BMW R80G/S.

Two years prior to the release. In 1980 BMW ventured in to a new market with the GS series, creating a new category for big adventure motorcycles. The first model was the R80G/S and since it's inception 30 years ago the GS model has grown into the firm's biggest selling motorcycle, the R1200GS.
