Sink in the laundry room was literally on my top 5 things when we were building a new place. You can soak stuff for stains, it's amazing to clean out paint brushes, you can contain all of your "mess" to one utility sink vs spreading it all over the house. If it's not really needed, then that sink is taking up valuable storage space or valuable countertop space.
So I polled my Facebook page and asked if a sink in the laundry room is necessary. A lot of people said no, especially in a laundry room/closet space like I'm planning. But so many people said YES!
I don't have a sink in the laundry room and I don't miss it. But I do have a 'utility' sink elsewhere in the basement. I couldn't imagine living without it.

I see sinks in laundry rooms in a lot of renovations. does anyone actually use them and if you do for what? We are about to install some cabinets in the laundry room, it's very narrow so only cabinets on the wall above washer/dryer.
But sink is close to the door to garage and I don't use it. I had some plumbing redone recently and I added 2 utility sink locations. One in the laundry room (stainless, nicer) and one in my utility/furnace room for paint brushes, super dirty kids clothes.
So yeah, essential. We are adding some lower cabinets to our laundry room and looking for sink recommendations. What do you guys suggest for a 20"-24" laundry room sink?
Personally, I'd be inclined to either hire a plumber to sweat the copper and adhere to code, or just "Y" adapter laundry hoses to the sink. Finally, washing machines can push a lot of soap suds into the drain, so don't be surprised if you find them bubbling up into your sink drain. This room is right off the kitchen and not connected to the garage.
I don't know how I feel about having the pantry so close to the laundry, or about having a utility sink so close to my food. I don't really use a sink for laundry, but I would like a utility sink for washing paint brushes or gardening supplies.
