Formation and Early Missions
Easy Company was formed in 1942 at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, under the command of 1st Lieutenant Herbert Sobel. The company was composed of volunteers who underwent rigorous training to become paratroopers. Their first major operation was the invasion of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

D-Day and Beyond
Easy Company landed in Normandy, France, on D-Day, facing heavy enemy fire. Despite the intense resistance, they successfully secured their objectives and linked up with other Allied forces. In the following months, they participated in the Battle of the Bulge, the largest and bloodiest battle fought between the United States and Germany.

The Battle of the Bulge
The Battle of the Bulge, fought from December 1944 to January 1945, was a major German offensive campaign launched in the densely forested Ardennes region of Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. Easy Company played a crucial role in halting the German advance and turning the tide of the battle.
Operation Market Garden

Later, Easy Company was involved in Operation Market Garden, a daring airborne operation aimed at securing key bridges in the Netherlands. Although the operation ultimately failed, Easy Company's bravery and determination were instrumental in holding the bridge at Nijmegen against overwhelming odds.
Battle of the Hurtgen Forest and the Rhine Crossing
Easy Company then fought in the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest, one of the bloodiest battles in American military history. Despite heavy casualties, they pushed forward, ultimately helping to secure a crossing of the Rhine River in March 1945. This marked a significant turning point in the war, as it allowed Allied forces to advance into Germany.

Liberation of Concentration Camps and the End of the War
In the final stages of the war, Easy Company was among the first Allied units to liberate concentration camps, including the infamous Malmédy massacre site. They also participated in the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest retreat. The war in Europe ended on May 8, 1945, and Easy Company was demobilized later that year.
