That line of thinking appears to have inspired this bizarre one-off creation that lingers in the collection of BMW's M GmbH performance division. It's a BMW Z3 roadster fitted with a massive V. However BMW built this prototype in 1999 to prove any of their engines could fit into a Z3.

This Z3 prototype now has a naturally aspirated 5.4 L M73 V12 from a E38 7. The V12 was found in cars such as the 7 Series E38, 8 Series E31, and the lesser-known Rolls-Royce Seraph. Due to the heavy V12 engine being fitted so far towards the front of the otherwise lightweight Z3, the vehicle had a weight distribution of 70/30, making it highly unstable whilst driving.
