EV sales surge 72% year-over-year FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Sept. 3, 2025 - Hyundai Motor America reported August total sales of 88,523 units, a 12% increase compared with August 2024 and an all-time August record. Hyundai set total sales records in August for Elantra N, Elantra HEV, Santa Fe HEV, Palisade, IONIQ 5, and Santa Fe family.

Hyundai EV sales climbed 72% last month as the tax credit rush continues. Ioniq 5 sales soared 61%, while the Ioniq 6 was up 30% to 1,047 units. The new Palisade appears to be a hit as sales.

Buyers are scooping up the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV9 in droves ahead of the federal EV tax credit expiring. Hyundai and Kia hit record August EV sales, led by the Ioniq 5 and EV9, as buyers rush to secure $7,500 tax credits before the September 30 deadline. On the Dash: Toyota, Ford, Hyundai, Honda, and Subaru all posted strong August sales, with Hyundai and Kia hitting records.

SUVs and electric vehicles drove overall growth across brands. EV tax credits, leases, and manufacturer incentives supported sales. Hyundai and Kia achieved record-breaking United States (U.S.) sales in 2024, driven greatly by their expanding electric vehicle (EV) offerings.

This success story conveys more than just outstanding numbers. Hyundai's EV and hybrid models are becoming mainstays in the American automotive market. This October, sales of hybrid vehicles jumped a substantial 91%, reflecting surging demand for Hyundai's electrified offerings.

Hyundai Motor of America's EV sales for the first quarter jumped 62% year. Hybrid vehicle total sales jumped 85%, while total EV sales grew 12%.

A new retail sales record was set in December with 66,159 units, a 9% increase from December 2023. EV retail sales increased 13% year-over-year, hybrid retail sales grew by +79% and electrified (EV, hybrid, plug-in hybrid) retail sales jumped 50%.
