For my 2023 JCW there's a thumb wheel to the right of the head light switch that one can use to change the dash lighting brightness. Believe that was the case with my 2018 JCW and 2022 S, too. At night I like to run with the dash lights dim.

Mine (6/03 MCS) doesn't appear to. Not a major problem but I would have dealer fix at next service visit if in fact it is malfunctioning.:confused. I tried to adjust control display and central display "brightness at night".

Anyway my main question is: I was out driving today in the rain during the day. As I was travelling along country lanes, the dash lighting was changing from bright to dim. It seemed to be as I was going past trees (and it was getting slightly darker), that the lights were getting brighter, and then dimming again once out in the open.

The dimming and then getting brighter again isn't a bug but a feature. There is a light sensor and when it gets dark, the lights will get dim too. When it gets in the light again, the dash lights brighten.
