The SAIC Charitable Foundation awards grants to SAIC employees who are facing difficulties due to a personal hardship beyond the employee’s control or a natural or civil disaster, including federally declared disasters.
What is the SAIC Foundation?
The SAIC Charitable Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to supporting eligible SAIC employees and their immediate family members during times of unexpected hardship. Through the generosity of SAIC, board members, employees, and other donors, the Foundation provides financial assistance to help individuals recover from qualifying emergencies, reinforcing our shared commitment to caring for one another when it matters most.
Who does the Foundation support?
The SAIC Charitable Foundation provides financial assistance to eligible SAIC employees experiencing an unforeseen financial hardship caused by a qualifying emergency, natural disaster, or catastrophic event.
What is a qualifying event?
A qualifying event is an unexpected hardship beyond an employee's control, including a federally declared natural disaster or other catastrophic event that creates an immediate financial need.
What expenses may qualify?
Eligible expenses resulting from a qualifying event may include emergency housing, disaster recovery, emergency medical expenses, housing assistance, and funeral expenses for an employee or their immediate family member. Unemployment assistance is only considered when the loss of employment is directly related to a qualifying event.
What medical expenses qualify?
The Foundation provides medical assistance for qualifying events only. Routine medical procedures, elective care, prescriptions, and other routine healthcare expenses are not eligible.
Who is eligible?
Regular full-time and part-time SAIC employees with more than six months of service, and their immediate family members (spouse/domestic partner and dependents, where applicable), are eligible.
As required under our benefits plans, proof of marriage, civil union, or partnership (i.e., marriage certificate) or dependency (i.e., most recent copy of tax return) may be requested when necessary.
How much assistance is available?
Eligible employees may receive Foundation grants of up to $5,000 during a rolling 12-month period, subject to Foundation guidelines, documented need, and available funding. The Foundation will always provide the most assistance possible, based on the qualifying event and the necessary expenses.
How long does review take?
Complete applications are generally reviewed within two weeks. Additional documentation may extend processing time.
How are funds distributed?
Approved grants are electronically paid directly to the employee. The Foundation does not pay third parties directly.
What documentation is required?
Required documentation of qualifying event expenses may include descriptions of the hardship, invoices, receipts, insurance information, employer notices, or other supporting records demonstrating both the qualifying event and financial need.
What does the Foundation not cover?
Examples of ineligible expenses include routine medical expenses, elective procedures, past-due debt, bankruptcy, taxes, legal fees, tuition, child custody matters, wage garnishments, unemployment, personal loans, and expenses unrelated to the qualifying event.
Is my application confidential?
Yes. Personally identifiable information is removed before committee review whenever practical, and Foundation officers and committee members adhere to strict confidentiality requirements.
Is the grant taxable?
The SAIC Charitable Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization, therefore grants are generally not considered taxable under current IRS guidance; however, applicants should consult a tax advisor as the Foundation cannot provide tax guidance.
How do I apply?
Applications are available through the SAIC Foundation website (SAICFoundation.org).
